Christy Swaid is the founder and CEO of HEAL, Inc. She is an accomplished, world-class athlete, recognized in the fitness industry not only for her athletic accomplishments but also for her expertise in science-based heart rate conditioning. She is a six-time world champion Jet Ski racer and the “winningest female in the history of the sport.” Christy holds the Pro Women’s Slalom world record and is a member of the International Personal Watercraft Hall of Fame. In addition to winning extreme sports competitions all over the world, including in Japan, Europe, and South Africa, Christy has had a number of fitness endorsements. She was recognized as “One of the Fittest Women in America” by Competitor Magazine (2000) and Muscle and Fitness (2001). Advocacy was always a part of her life. She volunteered hundreds of hours to the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and was appointed to the national staff as the “Good Will Ambassador for Boating Safety.”

Christy is the wife of Dr. Swaid N. Swaid, a prominent neurosurgeon based in Alabama. They have five children and two grandchildren. They attend Homewood Church of Christ.

Christine Baker is currently the Director of Regulatory Pricing and Costing Services for Alabama Power. With over 20 years of electric utility experience, Christine is responsible for providing cost-effective options for customers. She has also held various positions in Marketing, Power Contracts, Load Research and Financial Analysis and most recently served as assistant to the Alabama Power Chief Financial Officer.

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Christine earned a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from Auburn University in 1993. She lives in Hoover with her husband, Brian and their daughters, Jodie and Megan.

Christine dedicates much of her time encouraging others to embrace opportunities and realize their potential. She was active with the Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama with both her daughters, and believes in the organization which promotes courage, confidence and character while making the world a better place.

Attention to women’s higher education is important to Christine. She served two terms as a faculty in residence for the Auburn Women’s Leadership Institute where she mentored college women. She also serves as a member of the 100 Women Strong organization which provides resources and programming to attract, support and retain female students in the Auburn University College of Engineering.

She is a 2012 graduate of the Momentum Women’s Leadership program focused on building female leadership in Alabama. Christine currently volunteers with the Alabama Power ICan program, which exposes female middle school students to the field of engineering through hands-on learning in the classroom.

Building healthy lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke is a mission important to Christine, and why she is a member of the Heart Guild of Birmingham supporting the American Heart Association. Christine believes that through education, support and encouragement we can help others to live their best life.

Board member Janice Smith Farr is an active member of our community whose influence on Alabamians ranges from staffing a preschool to managing a successful campaign for a senate seat. Now a resident of North Selby County, Janice grew up in rural central Alabama on a farm. Her father worked for the Soil Conservation Service, and her mother was a public school teacher. Her brother is currently a principal. Education has always been an important part of life for Janice.

After earning her B.S. Degree from the University of Montevallo, Janice taught for three years. She worked for seven years at a church preschool/kindergarten program, where she developed and implemented fund raising events and was instrumental in doubling the school’s enrollment and teaching staff. Janice’s marriage to the late Jack Farr, long-time educator, principal, and, finally, school superintendent, guaranteed that she would always be mindful of the needs of school children and their teachers. She was active in the extracurricular activities of her own daughter, Jani, who was on the dance team and in show choir in high school and college. Jani graduated from the University of Tennessee and now works in Birmingham.

Always concerned about our government at all levels, Janice became involved in the campaign of a candidate for state senator. Her successful management of the campaign was instrumental in launching the political career of a first-time candidate, who went on to serve not only at the state level, but also in federal government. Janice makes it a policy not only to remain informed about current issues, but to remain involved.

In keeping with her life-long love of learning, Janice ventured into a new arena of work when she became an account executive with Lincoln Financial Advisors. During her 23 years at Lincoln, in addition to working in her own practice, Janice recruited across the state for professionals, especially accounting practices, to help build more planning offices for the company. She served as the field representative on the Distribution and Marketing Team at Lincoln corporate. Her team developed the initial distribution and marketing strategy for the corporation, involving “branding” and multiple distribution sources. Obviously, her ability to plan and organize, and her willingness to lead and to implement novel techniques have enabled Janice to succeed.

Sherrie LeMier graduated from the University of Alabama in 1979 and majored in Accounting. After several years of working with other companies, she came to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama in 1986 where she began her career as an advanced staff accountant. She was employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for over 23 years where she last served as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. In 2008 she was promoted to the roll of which she now serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Cahaba GBA, LLC which is the Medicare Affiliate of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.

She received her Master in Business Administration Degree in 2004. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Alabama Council on Economic Education, a non-profit organization that provides effective economic education training for teachers and classroom programs for students in grades K-12 at both public and private schools, the Board of Directors, HEAL, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to reverse the rising childhood health epidemic of obesity, diabetes, hypertension and early signs of heart disease through a school curriculum as well as a family and community outreach program. She is a member of University of Alabama Women’s Initiative Program. The C&BA Women’s Initiative is a mentoring program that fosters the career development of undergraduate and graduate women in business through educational sessions and one-on-one mentoring with leading executives in business. She serves on the Executive Leadership Team for the March of Dimes Walk for Babies and is a Board member of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. She is also a member of Momentum.

Sherrie lives in Hoover, Alabama with her husband Robert Alvin Potts. She is the mother of three children. Brandon, age 21 is a senior at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, majoring in business. He is on an athletic scholarship, playing soccer for the Chargers. Rachel, age 19 is a sophomore at Auburn University, majoring in Psychology. Her step-daughter, Alison Potts Shirley lives and works in Birmingham with her husband, Patrick.

Dr. Sharon Spencer

Dr. Spencer is currently a professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology. She is the Clinical Director of the Department. She is also the recipient of the Ruby F. Meredith Outstanding Clinician in Radiation Oncology Endowed Chair. She is a board member for the American Cancer Society. Her primary academic interest includes the treatment of brain, head and neck, and lung cancer. She is a part of the RTOG head and neck clinical trials committee as well as the radiation oncology chair of the ECOG head and neck clinical trials committee. Dr. Spencer is currently the academic PI for the NCI supported Community Radiation Oncology Disparity Group Program and serves as one of the mentors to the Singing River Hospital in Pascagula, MS. She has supported the School of Preventive Medicine at UAB as liaison to the Women’s Health Initiative, the PLCO and CANcors.

Roy Clem started his broadcast news career in 1973 at Denver’s KDEN radio station working as a street reporter and station announcer. After a brief career in journalism, Mr. Clem joined the Denver Police Department and served as a patrol officer, academy instructor/supervisor, and detective sergeant. During his time with the police department, he created the organization’s first public information office and produced the television series “Crimestoppers” with KMGH TV which still airs in the Denver market. In 1986 Mr. Clem returned to broadcast journalism.

During Mr. Clem’s 40+ years as a professional broadcaster he has been a Journalist, News Anchor, News Director, Television station General Manager, and Director of Commercial Broadcasting for the University of Alabama where he taught Broadcast Management, Broadcast Journalism, and Visual Storytelling & Ethical Decision Making in the College of Communication and Information Sciences. He has received numerous prestigious awards including: an EMMY Award for “The Holyland;”a National “Iris” Award for Investigative Reporting; the RTNDA Edward R. Murrow National Award for Best Spot News, Edward R. Murrow Regional Awards for Best News, and Best Feature; Colorado and Missouri Broadcasters awards; Alabama, Iowa, and Virginia Associated Press Awards; the National “Oscar in Agricultural Television” Award and was honored as a University of Alabama “Capstone Hero.” The Alabama Broadcasters Association named Mr. Clem as the 2012 “Broadcaster of the Year” and he was inducted into the ABA’s Hall of Fame.

As a business leader Mr. Clem was actively involved with the Tuscaloosa Chamber of Commerce where he served as the Chairman Elect Elect and received awards for Distinguished Service and Member of the Year. Mr. Clem serves on the board of directors for the Alabama Broadcasters Association (ABA) and was instrumental in the creation of Alabama’s Amber Alert Plan. He also taught Amber Alert Techniques across the nation for the Department of Justice. In addition, Mr. Clem served on the national board of directors for the Radio Television News Directors Association representing the Native American Journalists Association and numerous state and local boards for various charities including co-chairing the 2011/2012 United Way Campaign for the University of Alabama.

In September of 2012, Mr. Clem was selected to be the Executive Director for the Alabama Public Television Network’s nine television stations and one radio station. APT is America’s First Public Television Network and during the past two years the APT Team was honored with twelve EMMY nominations resulting in six EMMY awards, three national Telly Awards, three national NETA AWARDS for its unmatched services to school children in Alabama and across the nation and was honored by the national Corporation for Public Broadcasting as an American Graduate Hero for APT’s work to stem the high school dropout rate.

Mr. Clem has been married to Karla for 43 years, has two children, and five grandchildren.

He attended Colorado State University, special advanced business programs at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, and he is a graduate of the Episcopal Church Sewanee Seminary’s E.F.M. program and volunteered for several years as a Lay Eucharistic Minister at Birmingham’s St. Martin’s in the Pines working with the elderly.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama; Bobby Humphrey spent many fall Saturdays working as a concession vendor during University of Alabama football games at Legion Field, while dreaming of playing for the Tide. Bobby’s dreams came true in 1985 after piling up 7000 total career yards at Glenn High School; he received a scholarship to UA, and became one of America’s top collegiate running backs.

The 6’ 2” 190 pound halfback set many University of Alabama Football career records during his tenure there. Some included: Most 100-yard and 200-yard games, most kicks returned, most yards returned, and all-purpose yards. He earned All-American honors during his sophomore and junior years in addition to being named to the All SEC teams those years. He was later named to the Alabama All-Century and Team of the Decade (1980’s) teams as well. Bobby was also a candidate for the Heisman trophy during his junior year.

After an injury that sidetracked his senior year, Bobby was chosen by the Denver Broncos during the first round of the supplement draft. In 1989, his rookie year, Bobby became the first Bronco rookie running back in franchise history to rush for more than 1,000 yards. He was rewarded for his tremendous efforts during the 1989-1990 season with a trip to the Super Bowl and AFL Rookie of the Year; the following year he was selected for the Pro Bowl. In 1992, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins, where Bobby was the team’s leading receiver.

Bobby’s life after football has been just as stellar, he was hired as the 1st Head Coach of the Birmingham Steeldogs Arena Football 2 team. In 2004, was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.

“Hump” (a nickname given to him by his fans), through his job and community interests; is able to reach youth groups around the region spreading his message of positive goal-setting and making good decisions in life choices. Bobby and his wife, Barbara have 5 children and live in Birmingham, where he works for Bryant Bank. He is very active in church and manages Speed City Track Club. His best advice is “Change is possible through a relationship with Christ.”

Chef Stitt is owner and executive chef of Highlands Bar and Grill, Bottega Restaurant, and Chez Fon Fon in Birmingham, Alabama. He was inducted into the James Beard Foundation‘s “Who’s Who of Food and Beverage”, named the “Best Chef in the Southeast”, and was a 2008 finalist for the its national “Outstanding Chef” award. In 2011, Stitt was also inducted into Esquire magazine’s Restaurant Hall of Fame. His restaurants are regularly featured in top regional and national outlets such as New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Food & Wine, Saveur, Men’s Journal, Esquire, Garden & Gun and Southern Living. He has also been recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Southern Foodways Alliance for his elevation of Southern cuisine and his early advocacy of locally-grown food. Chef Stitt lends his expertise in culinary art and locally grown produce to enhance and promote the HEAL program.

Don Logan retired as Chairman of Time Warner Inc.’s Media and Communications Group, a position in which he oversaw America Online, Time Inc., Time Warner Cable and the Time Warner Book Group, in January 2006.

From 1994 to 2002, Mr. Logan was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Time Inc., the largest magazine publisher in the world and a leading direct marketer of music and videos. Prior to that, from 1992 to 1994 he served as Time Inc.’s President and Chief Operating Officer and served on Time Warner Cable Board of Directors until June 2016. From 1994 to 2002, Mr. Logan was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Time Inc., the largest magazine publisher in the world and a leading direct marketer of music and videos. Prior to that, from 1992 to 1994 he served as Time Inc.’s President and Chief Operating Officer and served on Time Warner Cable Board of Directors until June 2016.

In 1970 Mr. Logan joined Southern Progress Corporation. He was named President of Oxmoor House, its book publishing division, in 1978, and became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Progress in 1986. Southern Progress, the largest regional magazine and book publisher in the U.S., was acquired by Time Inc. in 1985.

Mr. Logan graduated magna cum laude from Auburn University in 1966 and earned his M.S. from Clemson University. He has received honorary doctorates from Auburn University, Clemson University and the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

In 2001, Mr. Logan received the Henry Johnson Fisher Award, the magazine industry’s highest honor. He was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor in 2003 and The University of Alabama, College of Communication and Information Sciences Hall of Fame in 2004. In March of 2005, Mr. Logan was presented The Auburn Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award and in March 2009 was inducted into the American Advertising Federation Hall of Fame. In 2011 he was inducted as Distinguished American Sportsman in the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2017 inducted into the Morgan County (AL) Sports Hall of Fame.

In 2006, the Logan family purchased the Birmingham Barons Minor League franchise, becoming the 11th owner in the Barons’ storied history that spans more than 100 years. He is an investor in the B.A.S.S. organization. B.A.S.S., LLC is the largest membership organization of bass anglers in the U.S; its multimedia platforms include web properties, televised professional fishing events as well as two publications.

He currently serves on the Board of Birmingham Business Alliance.

Don Logan and his wife Sandy reside in Birmingham and have two sons, Stan (Julie) and Jeff (Katrina), three granddaughters and two grandsons.

She is responsible for the management and supervision of all aspects of the state Child Nutrition Program in both school nutrition and preschool nutrition settings in Alabama. She serves as a nutrition and state policy supervisor for HEAL curriculum and programming.

Quen is autistic and his mother Lisa is his primary caregiver. Together they represent a voice for children and adults with special needs. HEAL effectively engages this “differently-abled” demographic and helps to improve quality of life for them. HEAL seeks to further develop modifications and methods to help teachers integrate children with all forms of special needs into HEAL programming and to educate the community to create further unity, understanding and appreciation. Lisa and Quen will occupy one position together on the advisory board. This is an innovative development symbolizing the mutual benefit they both receive from the HEAL program.
